President Trump just signed an executive order telling the Post Office to stop mailing ballots to people who aren’t American citizens, and every Democrat in Washington started screaming like he’d just canceled Christmas. “Voter suppression!” they shrieked, which is Democrat-speak for “please stop looking at how we’ve been winning elections.”
Somebody get these people a sedative. Chuck Schumer shrieked “See you in court!” Hakeem Jeffries went full drama queen. The NAACP called it “unserious.” And some county clerk in Wisconsin — an actual government official drawing a taxpayer-funded salary — told reporters the courts would strike it down “faster than a cheetah on meth.”
(We are not making that up. Your tax dollars at work, folks.)
So what does this terrifying, democracy-ending executive order actually do? The Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration will build verified citizen lists. The Post Office will only mail ballots to people on those lists. Every ballot gets a unique barcode so it can be tracked, and the Attorney General will prosecute anyone who ships ballots to people who aren’t eligible to vote.
Prove you’re an American before you vote in an American election. Democrats treated this like Trump had just dissolved Congress and crowned himself emperor.
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold — a woman who has never met a camera she didn’t lunge at — accused him of “creating a Trump voter list.” Arizona’s Adrian Fontes called it “a disgusting overreach.” Gavin Newsom’s office promised to sue, because that’s what Gavin Newsom’s office does when it’s not busy explaining why California’s fire hydrants are empty.
Now think about what Democrats are really telling us here. These are the same people who require you to show photo ID to buy Sudafed at CVS. You need an ID to board an airplane, open a bank account, buy a beer, rent an apartment, pick up a prescription, or adopt a cat from the local shelter.
Try walking into a federal building — one of *their* buildings — without identification and see how far you get. Security will tackle you before you reach the elevator.
But verify that someone is a citizen before they pick the next president? That’s where Democrats draw the line. Mega-lawyer Marc Elias puffed out his chest and declared, “I don’t bluff and I usually win.”
We’re sure that sounded very impressive in the mirror, Marc. Now explain why your party fights citizenship verification the way vampires fight sunlight.
The Brennan Center for Justice — which is to “justice” what North Korea is to “democracy” — released a statement calling the order a combination of “a car crash with a train wreck.” Their big objection? Government citizenship lists are “incomplete and inaccurate.”
So Democrats’ grand argument against verifying voters is that the government stinks at keeping records. That’s the best they’ve got. Maybe fix the records instead of throwing your hands up and letting anyone with a mailing address cast a ballot? Just a thought.
Now, we do need to talk about the elephant in the Oval Office. President Trump voted by mail himself — literally one week before signing this order. He mailed in his ballot for a Florida special election from the White House. His excuse? “Because I’m president of the United States.”
His candidate also lost that race to a Democrat in Trump’s own backyard. That’s genuinely hilarious and we respect him for not pretending it didn’t happen.
But Trump dropping a ballot in the mailbox from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue doesn’t change whether the policy is right. Nobody is banning mail-in voting. The order says ballots should go to verified citizens and get tracked like the important documents they are. That’s not suppression — that’s the bare minimum for a country that wants to be taken seriously.
The legal challenges are already stacking up like planes over LaGuardia. Trump’s first election executive order from March got slapped down by courts that said the president doesn’t have authority over state election procedures. UCLA law professor Rick Hasen says this new order is “virtually impossible to implement” before November. Democrats are betting the judges will bail them out again, because that’s how Democrats govern — through courtrooms instead of ballot boxes. (Ironic, isn’t it?)
But notice what Democrats never, ever do. They never say “we agree that only citizens should vote.” They never propose their own verification system. They never offer a single alternative that would make elections more secure.
They just scream “UNCONSTITUTIONAL!” and sprint to the nearest federal courthouse like their hair is on fire.
DNC Chair Ken Martin said the quiet part loud enough for the whole country to hear: “We know exactly why Donald Trump is trying to cheat: he’s terrified to lose big this November.” Read that again slowly. Democrats now define “cheating” as confirming voters are citizens. The same party that demands ID for cold medicine, firearms, and cashing a check considers it an act of war to verify your citizenship before you help pick the leader of the free world.
If your entire election strategy collapses the second someone asks voters to prove they’re Americans, that was never a democracy operation. That was a racket — and the whole country just watched you admit it.
